Please post any suggestions you have for the Website Search script. It will be released soon so if you can add to it in anyway we will credit you for the ideas!

Post Away! I have not got a demo of the script but it basically does the following:

Searches a flat file database (no MySQL needed)
    Displays query process time
    Admin Control Panel:
      Add Records
      Edit Records
      Delete Records
      Sort Records

erm...

Can anyone think of anything else!!

hy
i like your script very much and i´ve some ideas:
1. is it possible to make two versions of the script, one with and another without mysql-database?
2.is it possible to modifie the script to make it searching different databases? i only ask because i want to make a websitesearch for germany and i want to seperate the search in the 13 federal republics so i need 13 different databases because i want to give the user the possibility to get only results from his region.

ok,that´s all ;o) ,thanx

Hey,

I will be making an SQL version one day.

The SQL version will allow "multi databases" or categories

how about adding the ability to rank results for relevance? So for instance if I have four pages all containing various amounts of info on DHTML I can enter for

page one -
KEYWORDS: DHTML(1), something, something else, etc

page 2 -
KEYWORDS: DHTML(2), something, something else, etc

page3 -
KEYWORDS: DHTML(3), something, something else, etc

page4
KEYWORDS: DHTML(4), something, something else, etc

Result being that when a visitor types in DHTML in the search box those four pages are shown in the results page but in the order I've specified.

Only suggestions... hum, okay.

1- Search multiples "databases". This cal also be done using search?page=XXX, but it can be added in the readme file.
2- (I'm implementing it) Pagination. Allow the user of the script user pagination of the results.
For example:
My variable $pagination = 15;
Then, I'll display the first 15 results found. Then, the page 2 display from 16 to 30 and so on. If the user (the admin of the system) type false to the pagination variable, the script works like it's currently done.

I'm trying to do this, but it's really buggy yet.
I really love your script, that's why I'm using it. Maybe a version 1.1 can add at least the pagination feature.
Let me see if I finish it, then I can send here the updates.

Best regards,

So, do it!

Find 10 minutes in one Sunday and please implement it...
I'm studying PHP only to handle this script

At least I can build my site more dinamically after I became an expert.

Waiting for the update at Search Script.

Regards,

You give an option to restrict directories and file types to search. Also another good thing would be not to add every single html file records, for it to automatically crawl the directory specified, and apply the rules (file types and directories). Just an idea, that I would think would mke it kick a$$.

you should create a link thigny, where people can create their own link into a databaseand people can look at it and stuff, and allow a admin to be able to allow that link or disallow.

hi,

i got an idea.

have the search engine log searches so you know what terms are being used and if someone is abusing it

another one is to make a mysql 1, i think it will be quicker that way

I think CJ should make the next version with non-case sensitive keywords (if not done yet).
