ok I have created the mysql version which is now available

http://www.metalstation1.com/cj-search/index.php

there you will see a demo page which will also have the admin link and the download link, feel free to comment on anything about the script, and most importantly enjoy! Smile

the look is still the same, only the db type and some added features were done.

UPDATE 8/23/05: If you already downloaded my version, please re-download it. a user reported to me that the setup file did not create a table. this table will make it so you can't login. I have updated the zip and it's on my download area. if you wish to just get the setup file pm me and I'll email it to you.

There is one improvement that I notated that another user requested which I think would be a very good enhancment . That being an option for the web-site owner to display so many results on the page.

Well , I've added to that thought on this note.

Not only does the script need this enhancment but it needs it in a certain way.I'll describe the best that I could derive from this user input mixed with my input.

Drop down menu from which the web-site owner may configure results per page. Default should be set by web-site owners' minimium input from the drop down options menu.

eg... 25 <default> , 40 , 75 , 100 ..

The complicated portion of this in general that will make it a dificult achomplishment is to be capable of writing an algorythym in PHP an applying the algorythym to dynamically create the array and split the array accordingly.

Now , wether this is done with MySQL or just our original flat text file , this algorythym in PHP will be the same. It will be the most difficult task to achomplish with the web-site search but I do believe that once it has this enhancment , it will be the next Google , or Yahoo search engine Wink

I'm going to work on this idea next but I really do believe that it may take a great deal of time to get it just right .
Just thought that you may want to include this into your version as well darkcarnival Wink

ok phpdummy let me see if im with you on this:

your saying that the search result page should have a page system that allows you to have so many results per page, and have a drop down menu that a user could use to let let them choose this and have a default value set by the admin.

i like that idea dude and i will differently use that for my re-write Smile but actually uysing a system like what your saying isnt really that hard, just have to work on a existing number system i already have Wink

i might also make the mysql search have categories as james posted once that if he made a mysql version it would have the ability to category searches, i think i will do that for him Smile i already have a search like that i made for my site i just need to make it work for this search script.

Yeah , thats kinda the idea...... the algorythym would have to be able to readjust |offset| based on the page return amount chosen tho .

If you go to Google or Yahoo , and check on preferences for the search field , it'll allow the user to choose something like <25> , 40 , 50 , 75 , 100 results per page . Yet the admin.'s , had set the default page results to that of the minimium of the drop down choices.

The funny part tho' is going to be able to dynamically build a web-page from nothing. At least thats what I will aim for when I get around to doing it for my version. I have a hardened feeling that if one was to use PHP_SELF['thispage'] , that if the web-site is high traffic , that the server c.p.u. will boil over so I personally dont want to use that method because it will already be such a high enough payload to keep the remaining results in the c.p.u. R.A.M. as it is , let alone with such an adative of anything else.

Hi Chaps - It was me that requested (in a couple of posts) an amendment to control the number of results to be displayed.

I'm glad you've picked it up - and look forward to seeing what you come up with.

As for a MySQL version - I looked at a lot of website search scripts before I found CJ's. A lot of them use MySQL which I didn't want. This is what CJ' says on the website search home page:
"The CJ Website Search was written because there are no decent, free, fast website searches out there that use flatfile databases!"

There are numerous decent MySQL search scripts out there - the attraction to me (and I guess others) is that CJ's doesn't require MySQL !

PHPDUMMY: You mention your 'All Tidied Up' version is coded to work with frames - Does this mean only frames as I'm not a fan of frames ?

Finally it would be helpful if you supplied a link to a website that is using your amended versions so people could compare things with the original which is demonstrated on this site.

Thanks...

hi badger,

well im making a mysql version since if you checked out his script request page many people have requested a mysql version, so i thought i would create a mysql version.

I will make a demo page for ya all if you wish, but ill tell you big selling point to having a mysql database:

first no more chmoding Smile
second mysql is more powerful than flatfile meaning this search will have more power towards it.

I plan to look at the script request page james made and build this based on that and what you guys post here as im making this for you guys so your opinions matter Smile

Well , as far as the fact that the script is designed to work with frames , it could easily integrate with any page .

As far as a web-site utilizing my version thus far , that would be my web-site. My web-site is Porn , so beware ! from the left menu pane choose "Perform Site Search" , http://www.pussy-cams.com .

What do you mean exactly darkcarnival. What do you mean place my example on your space ?

I mean , you'd have to piece all the enhancments together really , so if you'd like , I guess that I could post a 1 page complete script here for you with all the code in the appropriate places . but I dont know if I've really got time to put comments in it and as well as certain things like the way to utilize the images next to the results , I mean the completed script thus far really does need some hardcore directions.
Maybe I'm missing something here. I would highly appreciate some credit though if at all possible.

of course dude Smile

what i was saying was if you like, i could put the example of your improvements on my space and also mine, that way people will know what it will look like.

i also plan to have my work availalbe to download since im doing such a big overhaul on the script. so far heres my plan for the script:

*it will be be in MySQL
*It have the ability to allow users & admins to set how many results they want per page.
*it will log every search(and that can be disabled)
*It will have the ability to categorize searches(like how yahoo & google do it

and here are a few thingfs i might do it after the above item have been completed:

*allow others to add their website to this(admins can disable this and if enabled admins MUST vertify it b4 it will get added to the database.)

if anyone else has any more idea, im open to them Smile

Bug Report:
I searched for : ac/dc

then logged into the admin panel , looked at the log file , and it said that no searches had been performed.

How odd..... hhhhmmmm.........

well , now it showed where I'd searched for ac/dc but it's been a couple of hours since I did that.Maybe theres a delayed reaction . I did a search for " test " and it doesnt show that in the log file but it now shows my earlier search , so perhaps in a little while , it'll show where I searched for " test " . Okay , so not a bug , just a delayed reaction.

well phpdummy i added ac dc to it after you talked about it Wink

but yea it might be a delay thing on my server as on my test server its faster.

but i updated this with that admin user thing where you can have more than admin, but thats not on the demo as i didnt want someone to delete the demo password Wink

but i also made a download counter to see how popular it gets Wink if its popular enough i might a ver 2 or improve a different script made by james, i always wanted to improve the user online thing Wink
