oooo, please share, for I am in desperate need for this. I'm limited to the flat-file version of the search b/c of 'security' issues on running anything on Mysql at work (yeah, it is lame).

Anyways - I found myself in need for having some sort function that divides any searches that have over 15 results into pages...? I'm assuming it is just editing the search.php. ANY help would be greatly appreciated. thanks

security issues with mysql

dude mysql is ALOT more securier than flatfile Wink

you place a flat file file and a mysql query with no login and ill bet i can crack the flat file quicier and easier Wink

mysql is also more powerful. Wink

but that does sound very lame indeed Wink

yeah, my thoughts exactly. I guess the security issues they are referring to is the fact that they have to install additional software/applications to run the database (therefore more maintanence, security awareness, etc).

I haven't fully looked into it, but is MySQL lite a happy medium b/t the two? (flat file and DB data storage), I believe it still uses a flat-file to hold the data, but you can use queries to obtain it, so don't see why it would be.

Plus a flat file is suitable for the small amount of data we want to store... BUT, it is growing larger than I anticipated, so I was hoping one of you great mods/admins had a solution to page the results?

sorry i took so long to respond....originally , in all my endeavors with the excellent web-site search provided by cj-design , i had intended to release the final version , yet there seem to be no one that really seemed interested enough to even leave me any feedback,comments, or suggestions , so i decided to leave the posted version just prior to the final release. i tell ya what....shoot me your e-mail (if it's not already posted) and i'll send you the final version which includes real ( originally coded by me in full ) page generation abilities.
It should be well notated however that my release is low level , meaning there is no administration panel , i like to see whats going on in my code so i just always do away with those admin panels. just simply making adjustments in the config.php is all that is required with my release.

Close-minded indeed dark-carnival... It's like they're stuck in the 1990's or something.

PHPDUMMY - thanks for your response. This sounds absolutely amazing and exactly what I need. I've been working with PHP for a few years, so I'm sure I can figure out what you send me. I don't use the admin panel, as well, mainly b/c the site.dat is customized with pictures and other HTML.

I'll be happy to test run it and leave feedback for you, that is, if you are still interested in releasing the final version.

My email is: sjt5x8 ~AT~ mizzou.edu {edited to keep e-mail harvesters from spamming user}

I also checked out your site-search on your website it is exactly what I need. Aalso couldn't help to browse around \=()

Anyways, lookin' forward to your email. I'll be sure to either post here or shoot you an email back with how it worked out asap. thank you so much, very much appreciated.

and all that i personally ask is that you leave the areas within the code where it is notated whom did what ..... i know most people just strip copyrights which are displayed on the web-page but hopefully you'll be honest enough to leave the internal copyright notations....
